Like any capital equipment evaluation, security managers face tough choices in retaining and maintaining their Access Control system, compared with a full overhaul and transition to new equipment. If the system is still performing, meeting the business requirements, a full replacement is low on the capital planning schedule.
Beyond upgrading or replacing the system, there are certainly additional capital and transition costs involved in a system overhaul. A full replacement requires the replacement of existing controllers, proximity readers, credentials, power supplies, enclosures, most of the cabling and connections. Further, a full replacement may draw vital capital resources away from other and perhaps more critical upgrades to Burg, Fire or CCTV systems.
